Vying for PresidentThis comes up every four years for the Presidential election… “As a Christian, who should I vote for?  Because of my position as a Pastor of a church, I am not allowed to tell you on behalf of our church who to vote for.  So I will not tell you my opinion, unless you want me to share with you personally what I think.

However, I came across an answer to this question from Nationally known Pastor, Max Lucado, that sums up my feelings on this matter.  He wrote…      “First, we pray.  That’s the call of Scripture to Christians.  Our job during times of national decisions is to lead the way in prayer.  Then, I believe you select a president who best represents what you think are the values that God wants us to have, and line yourself up with either one candidate or the other based upon the character or values of that candidate.”

The problem is that candidates say so many things, it is enough to make your head spin… literally!  And really, what is the truth about what they believe verses what they say to get elected.  To help me, I  look at what they have done in the past , which helps me to determine if their past decisions line up with God’s values or not.  Then if they have both consistently made godly decisions, then it will fall to your personal preference.

So pray for God’s wisdom to select the person who best represents the values of God.  Then continue to pray for the person who gets elected for the next four years!

Blessings on your journey with God…

Pastor Paul
